The most obvious aspect of Wei Wuxian's personality is the carefree attitude that he projects. Preferring to have fun over following rules, he has a tendency to be polarizing, with many loving him while others hate his 'disrespect'. Even during class, he's more prone to playing with others than to listen to the teacher. However, this willingness to bend the rules means he's a very creative and inventive individual able to see outside of a situation and come up with plans others may miss.

Beneath the prankster is someone with a very kind heart, willing to sacrifice himself to save others, be it by enduring pain or losing a very important element to the cultivation world. With courage, he's willing to stand against the entire world when it means doing what's right and wishes for nothing more than to have the power to protect those who need his help. His refusal to back down from what is right even makes him an enemy of those he once worked with. 

In spite of his kindness, Wei Wuxian falls far from a saint. In addition to his tendency to prank and annoy those who aren't giving him the reaction he wants, he's also a very arrogant person. Part of Wei Wuxian's bravery stems from the fact that he's sure he can handle almost anything that is thrown at him, even if it means losing the very source of his power. Born someone with impressive strength, he's grown accustomed to besting most with ease and the same confidence carries over when he's willing to take on the world for the sake of weak.

Throughout the story, Wei Wuxian loses his golden core, which is the source of his strength. Despite that, he still finds himself useful in battle, both with or without the flute that allows an alternative way of cultivation. This is because, in addition to his power, Wei Wuxian is also very intelligent and observant. Even at the start of the story, when he's still young and learning, he's able to infer what people aren't saying and correctly connect the things they are willing to say.

If you believe him, Wei Wuxian is considered quite the attractive fellow. As is common with the setting, his hair is very long, falling along his back with strands of bangs framing his face. Normally, a red band pulls a portion of the hair back to meet in the middle, adding some volume. His eyes are reactive, flowing between soft to mischevious to sad to angry quite easily.
